Mission Accomplished

About two months ago Allan and I started talking about wanting to get back into decent shape (again) and we decided that we needed a goal and so Operation Couch to 5K. We attempted working out a few times a week, sometimes we were successful, sometimes we didn't get moving as often as we had hoped. We looked online at Runon.com and found local 5K races for the month of March and decided to run Race For Wishes which benefits the Make a Wish Foundation.

We got to the race, checked in, pinned on our numbers, stretched, and headed to the starting line with about 1000 other people. It is safe to say that Allan and I were both a little nervous about what to expect and then a shot was fired and the crowd began to move. We started jogging and didn't stop for 3.11 miles...that is right, I RAN the ENTIRE race without resting. It was a huge accomplishment for me. I felt really proud of myself for the first time in a long time. It was not the fastest time ever and honestly some of the time my run was slower than a speed walker may go, but it was still a run.

I LOVED my first 5K, even though I thought I may pass out at the end. I am encouraged to continue working out and really looking forward to our next run at the beginning of May where my goal is to improve my time by three minutes and run the entire way again. The other great thing about this whole experience was accomplishing a goal with my very supportive husband and I can't wait to run with him again. Thank you Sweet Man for staying by my side, I LOVE you so much!!

That's so fun. Did you run before?
Next time, you need to get out there with the double stroller and a dog (I can lone you one) and do the race...those people make me feel pathetic! =)

Em, I'm so proud of you and Allan! Way to go Baby Doll!!!! Even if we don't do the Flower Mound walk/run for Mother's Day, I would really like to go for a comparable walk on the trails of Highland Village with my fam. So fun! Maybe we could make a contest of it with numbers to pin on and everything; prizes for everyone and a 'trophy' for the winners.
