The Bear's Last Few Days
Allan came in last Friday (the day we celebrated V-Day) with a dozen roses for me and a single rose for his smallest Valentine. She was SO excited about her flower. I loved the joy it brought her. She insisted that the rose had a butterfly inside it and as it opened up she was so sad when the butterfly was not there and decided that it must have flown away in the middle of the night.
A Great Appointment
Well this was one of the best appointment I have had since finding out that Jacob was on his way. We have been praying about the placement of my placenta, we needed it to move up. It has been very low, just like it was with Claire and as I have said before there were some major complications after her delivery. Today as the sonographer was looking around inside my tummy she said "there has been significant movement of your placenta". I asked "in which direction?" and could not have been happier to hear her reply "Up, way up, it is at the top of your uterus. Just so you know, placentas never move down." I mean how fantastic is that?!?!?
Does anyone remember my friend's dream?
There were a couple of other good things noticed that we have to go confirm with the perinatologist in a few weeks. For now all is well and I am so thankful to all of you who have been praying for this pregnancy. We are excited about how things are progressing!

Courage = Encouragment
I have had a few rough nights of sleep with bad dreams about the delivery of this little guy. Fear of things not going as planned, another hemmorage, having to have a c-section, a baby that is not healthy- these are all things that I have been praying about since before I was even pregnant. I have even asked a lot of people to pray with and for me. I hated having this little hiccup in faith the last few nights and when I would wake up I would try and convince myself that it was just a bad dream and I am sure that all would be fine. I did however start noticing little things about myself like kind of resigning my self to having a c-section (I realize that lots of people have them and are fine, but it is REALLY not what I want). I started lowering my expectations of what God would/could do in this situation.
Today after church a new friend of mine found me and said that she had been trying to get the courage to talk to me for three weeks. She is one of the people that has been praying for me and this pregnancy since the very beginning and for that I am thankful. She is not the type person that says she will pray for me just to say it, she follows through. Anyway, she had a dream about me three weeks ago and was nervous to tell me about it because she didn't want me to think she was crazy. Let me just say that I do believe God speaks to people in many different ways and one of the ways he uses is dreams. I have no doubt this was one of those times.
The Dream:
She and her daughter were running late to get to choir practice at church. When she arrived she saw me at the front of the sanctuary talking to a man in a choir robe. She came and sat on the front row so that she could hear what we were talking about. The man asked me how far along I was in my pregnancy. He asked how my delivery went with Claire. My friend thought to herself there is no way this man could have known that I had another child and for sure shouldn't know that her name was Claire. That is when she noticed that this man had wings under his robe- he was an angel. He then put his hands on my belly and said to me "This is not the same pregnancy that you had with Claire. There is nothing to be afraid of. Everything will go smoothly with the delivery."
My sweet friend that had this dream was so nervous to tell me about it, she had no idea that this is exactly what I needed to hear this morning. I have a renewed faith that what we have been praying for has been heard, she was such an encouragment to me. I will continue to hold onto those words for the next twelve to fourteen weeks- this is not the same pregnancy, everything will go smoothly, do not be afraid. I believe God spoke to her to speak to me. Thank you friend for your faithfulness to pray for me daily and for being open to be used to encourage me when I needed it!

Claire's Comments
I have decided to make this somewhat regular because I don't want to forget how hilarious I think my girl is. She is constantly saying things that make me laugh.
* When I was trying to get Claire out of the house the other day I told her it was time it was time to get in the car and she said "ok Mom, peace out"
* I have mentioned before that Claire thinks that my belly button is the portal to the baby, as it has popped out she has started thinking it is the baby's nose as well. Yesterday she was talking about dirty diapers and pinched my belly button between her little fingers and said "pee-yew baby".
* When we walked in the door the other day Claire noticed that her magnets were on the floor and she very dramatically said "what the earth!" (instead of what on earth).
* Recently Claire has been having a hard time with having a happy heart at naptime so yesterday I talked up that it was almost naptime what my expectations were for when I told her it was time to go upstairs. I gave her a five minute and two minute warning and then said ok Claire what time is it? She matter-of-factly looked at the clock and said "Mom, it's about ten o'clock" (the correct answer was naptime).
* Claire went with me to my OB the other day and asked if we were going to get the baby out. I explained that the baby was too little and he needed to stay in mommy's tummy a while longer so that he will be really healthy. When my doctor walked into the room she seemed really nervous and said "no take my baby Dr. Feeder (not exactly his name which was really cute), he is so tiny". I love how protective she already is of this little guy.

Support, Chiropracters, Sweet Husband
I don't feel like I have had one good blog in me for awhile so I decided to hodgepodge it...
I love my mom and dad. I love that they know my heart and support me. I love that their love for me and my little family is unconditional. I love knowing that they would go to battle for me if it were needed. I love that I don't have to make excuses with them.
I am a believer in the technique that my chiropractor uses. Is is non-abrasive and I haven't felt nervous one time that she has worked on me. I spent weeks ten through twenty of this pregnancy in pretty horrific pain every single day (I tried to hide it when in public and heard I did a pretty good job...yay for me and high pain tolerance). Anyway, after trying massage/physical therapy and laying on the couch for days on end I gave in to my fear of a chiropractor and I am in love. Allan came and watched at my appointment today and could not believe that they are actually doing anything to help me, but you can't argue with results. The results have been great. I am able to walk pretty normally and stand with weight on both legs. I can actually clean up around our house without crying. I have only been going to her for a week, but the difference is fantastic. I still have to be a little careful and as my bones/joints fall into their old patterns in between visits I get sore, but the pain has been so much more spread out that I could do a little jig.
I have to brag on my husband again. I mean why not right? He is a constant help around the house which is great and the effort he puts into being a fantastic daddy makes me tear up sometimes. Today he did a few things that just made me smile though...little things, but so thoughtful. He texted me just because with a sweet note (this is not something he normally thinks to do, so it was extra special). he knew that I had a really hard day emotionally yesterday and just wanted me to know that I was not forgotten and that I was really loved. He also took the initiative to set up a babysitter so that we can have a date this weekend. I am usually the one who has to set this stuff up or light a fire under him to take care of it. I had not even mentioned it once, so that was super sweet. He walked through the door (when he was scheduled to) and had me a Route 44 water with extra ice from Sonic. This was such a treat for me. He is already working on my thirtieth birthday party and is not wanting me to plan it, but getting some ideas so it is something that I really want. It is apparent that he wants me to feel special and loved and that means the world to me. I love days that he goes above and beyond, he is a GREAT husband!

Answered Prayer
It was a little over two weeks ago that we found out Baby Jacob was on his way. The day of the sonogram we were unable to see my doctor to discuss what all was seen on the sonogram. The only things we knew for sure were that we were having a boy, he was a big little guy, and that my placenta was low again. Overall I was very happy about how it all went, just concerned a bit about the placenta. I was supposed to get a call from my doctor within a few days, but I guess his schedule was a little busy to give me a ring. A few days later I called him and left a message that I wanted his input on my placenta. He returned my call a few hours later and reconfirmed the gender, that his heart looked great, he was in fact on the larger side. He didn't have much to say about the location of the placenta except that we are all hoping it moves up...already knew that too.
He then led in to something that kind of rocked my world for a little bit:
I think his exact words went something like this "your son looks great for the most part. We did see a little something that we have to tell you about. There is a cyst in his brain, it is called a choroid plexus cyst. This is a soft marker for Down's Syndrome". Everything else was a little fuzzy for a minute then I thought I have to get every bit of information right now...FOCUS EMILY!!! He continued on with "Emily, you do not need to panic. A soft marker means that it is not very likely that your son actually has Down's Syndrome. This is actually not all that abnormal. Everything else looks great which means your chances of having a son with Down's is very unlikely. 95% of the time a cyst is seen in a sonogram the baby ends up being totally healthy and the cyst is actually gone before you give birth." He did recommend seeing a perinatologist for a better sonogram and second opinion.
My first call was to Allan. I tried to stay totally calm and focus on the 95%, but a small part of me was cycling through thoughts of life with a child that I would love no matter what but would never be completely healthy and whole. This was all within an hour of hearing about the cyst. The next thing I did was make the decision to NOT get on the Internet. I knew that would only scare the crap out of me and I really wanted to focus on the 95%.
A good friend of mine has sadly had a lot of experience with perinatologists and very eventful pregnancies, because of this she is a wealth of knowledge and a source of comfort in abnormal situations. I called her to find out who her doctor was because I was wanting to schedule an appointment ASAP. She is amazing. Within an hour she had made a call to her doctor to see see if they could work me into their schedule sooner than later, she had done a ton of research on choroid plexus cysts (CPC), and called me back with info that would carry me through the next week and a half basically stress free. The info Allan and I held to was that an isolated CPC without any other markers (i.e. stunted growth, heart problems, deformities in the hands) is more like 99% nothing to worry about. It had already been made pretty clear that none of those three things were issues for Jacob. Also, there is a lot of research out there that says these cysts are almost considered normal in development and are almost always gone by 32 weeks of pregnancy. We had made an appointment with the perinatologist for this last Wednesday and our prayer was that the cyst would already be completely gone, no sign of it whatsoever...I would be 21 weeks pregnant, no where close to 32.
The sonogram lasted about 40 minutes and the quality was fantastic. The doctor was exactly who we needed, his bedside manner was so calming and reassuring. The best news of the day the cyst was totally gone, there was NO sign of it at all!!! Our little man is healthy and whole. Our prayers were answered.
I want to say a few things now...even in the small bit of time I allowed myself to freak out when first hearing about the cyst, I NEVER, not even once considered life without this little one inside of me with or without Down's Syndrome or any other genetic or physical issue. I know that life would be hard with a child that has medical issues, it is not ideal, but if that is the life God chose for my family we would not just survive, we would flourish. I am so thankful that our prayers were answered the way we had hoped, but we would have been okay if they were not. I have a deep respect for families that have special needs children, I always have. The parents who choose life when their babies are not "perfect" are true heroes!

Playgroup Party
We had our playgroup Valentine's party yesterday at Mrs. Randi's house. As always she was a fantastic host and our kids all had a great time! They ate yummy snacks, exchanged homemade Valentine cards (made by the moms of course), the kids squealed and played, and the moms had a great time chatting it up. I LOVE our playgroup!

My beautiful little valentine. She is wearing a dress that her cousin, Allie, wore ten years ago. She loved exchanging Valentines with all of her friends. It was so cute and a little chaotic.Claire and Luke have had a special little friendship throughout this playgroup. I think he is a little sweet on her. They played better together today than ever before, it was so fun to watch.

I have said this before, but I LOVE that Claire gets to grow up close to some of her cousins. She and Cooper are just a year apart and love each other, if they don't see each other at least once a week they start asking for each other. I love that they are in playgroup together. I mean seriously...how cute are they?!?!?

Our fantastic playgroup that has been meeting twice a month for the last year and a half. I love this group of moms and kids and do not look forward to every ending our get togethers. We have kind of made a pact that we will meet until they graduate from high school, I hope that the kids will cooperate and that none of us ever move.
Just for grins I added a picture from our Valentine's party last year. Same couch, different positions of kids. I think that Randi will have to host the V-Day party every year so we can get a picture of these kids every year, she will also have keep this couch forever.

My Funny Bear
Claire is getting more and more hilarious. I have to document a few of the funny and sweet things she is doing and saying these days.
* She likes to sing this little prayer like they do in Sunday school, but has a few of the words confused. I can't bring myself to correct her though
God our fodder, God our fodder
Once again thank you blessings
All the men, all the men (instead of Amen)
* I asked her if she was ready to go run errands and this was her response
Yeah, let's go!! (while jumping up and down excitedly)
How do we run with Aaron?
* While walking upstairs the other day she randomly said
Mommy when your baby falls out I want to catch it
* She will use just about any stick as a wand and turn people into princes and princesses then it is time to dance. She likes to go to the ball in a dress and will hold her daddy's hand and hold her skirt out while singing. Every once in a while she will say
I need daddy to come home and be my prince so we can dance together
* I was resting on the couch the other day and she ran over to me wrapped her arms tightly around my neck and said
You are my best mommy ever. You are my best friend.
* She has started using Baby Jacob and her daddy as scapegoats which is funny to me although I can't let her know that- a few examples
Daddy said when the sun waked up I can't sleep anymore (this is her excuse to not take a nap)
Baby Jacob weally weally needs this lipstick. He weally wants us all to wear it. (trying to
convince me to buy her yet another tube of lip gloss)
Baby Jacob is so hungry he wants me to have a pink cookie with sparkles. He wants to
share with me.
* She is in love with band aids and will ask for them daily. If I tell her no she says
But I have a weally bad injury on my hand/foot/elbow/knee
* Claire is always wanting to feed the baby. Most nights I lay on the couch and she covers my tummy with whatever snack she is having at the time- goldfish, grapes, chips, cookies, etc. I decided that she needed to be warned that once Jacob is out of my tummy he is not allowed to eat real food because he is so tiny. He will have to wait until he is a big boy and mommy or daddy are the only two who can make the decision that he is big enough. Her response
Baby Jacob will just eat milk from here (pointing to her collarbones). Baby Jacob will only eat milk under your shirt? Baby Jacob will only eat milk like Ainsley. When will the baby eat brownies?

Signing My Baby Girl Up

I headed over to a local church this morning to sign my baby girl up for Mother's Day Out which starts in the fall. When I told her we were going to see her school she got really excited and said that she needed to take toys to share with her friends at school. She loaded up a couple of baskets of her best toys and we were off. I told her that we were going to see her friends (whoever they may be), but she insisted and who am I to discourage sharing her best things.
We got to the church thirty minutes before sign up began and I was kind of thinking that we had a really slim chance of getting her signed up for anything other than the waiting list. Thankfully we were #5 to get there and she took the 21st spot out of 28 positions in the upcoming three year old class. We walked around and saw her future class, met the lady that will be her music teacher, and looked at the playground. As we were getting back in the car she said "I love my new school, it is so fun". I hope she still feels that way in a few months when I leave her for five hours twice a week. Although I think that if she thought sitting beside me while I filled out paperwork and walked around looking in empty classrooms was fun, it will blow her mind when she gets to do all the fun things they have planned for her.
The thought of my baby girl starting "school" is bittersweet, but I guess bittersweet moments come with the mommy territory. I was not even sad until I held my baby girl in my arms as she fell asleep at naptime today. I cannot believe we are heading into this next stage of life. I love my girl and I am looking forward to the next chapter in our relationship. She will ALWAYS be my baby girl even when she is sixty three. I ask her everyday if she will always cuddle me even when I am old and gray and she says yes. She even says she pinkie promises. I will hold her to it.
Whirlwind Weekend
Well it was a busy and fun weekend and I have no pictures to prove it.
Friday night we hosted a game night at our house and it was so fun. Allan and I love having fun adult time. We had yummy snacks and played Catch Phrase and Apples to Apples and just laughed a lot.
Saturday was the most chaotic day of the weekend. We went to Julia's 4th birthday party at a neighbor's house. They always have great parties and this carnival style one did not disappoint. We were just sad we couldn't stay the whole time.
Claire and I headed over to watch my nephew play basketball and Allan went to a gun shooting party with his coworkers. We had lunch with the family afterwards and headed to my nieces basketball game. I have to say it has been fun to watch my niece and nephew improve over the last few years in sports, they are less all over the place and more focused and skillful.
Allan met us for my nephew's birthday party at the local roller rink. It was SO great to see Claire on skates for the first time. She had a blast. I laughed really hard a few times watching her try to stand up and seeing her feet keep sliding out from under her. Allan was a trooper and held her up for an hour and half. My nephew had a great time and was well celebrated.
The most fun part of our exhausting Saturday was that night when we went to our friend Jason's thirtieth birthday party. Allan played Whirlyball with most of the guests, since I am preggars that wasn't an option for me, I enjoyed chatting it up with the other ladies. I did however get to play two games of laser tag and that was AWESOME!!! I can't wait to play again one day.
Sunday was just what the doctor ordered. We just rested most of the day, even spent part of the early afternoon laying in the backyard because it was so dang beautiful out. Some of my favorite family moments are spent doing almost nothing outdoors with my little family. It just makes me happy! We finished the night off watching the Superbowl at my sister's house. It was low key and a great day to finish off a chaotic weekend.
I am floored that some people have weekends like this every weekend. Everything I did was fun and I wouldn't have passed up one single event, but I was flat tired by last night to say the least.
